The legislative authority of the City of Jackson is vested in a City Council composed of a Mayor and five Councilmembers. The Mayor is elected city-wide by residents and each Council Member is elected by the residents within their respective districts. The Council sets policy for the operations of the city, approves the city's annual budget, passes ordinances, and hears and acts on requests for zoning, rezoning, and annexation. The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the city.
The City Council meets in regular session on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Court Building, 132 S. Mulberry Street, in Jackson.
